Rail enthusiast takes two planes and two trains, in 18 round trip to travel on Parry People Mover

A rail enthusiast from Troon made an 18 hour round trip took – comprising of two flights and two trains each way – just so he could travel on the Parry People Mover that works the UK’s shortest branch line.

62 year old Neil Hughes – a retired air traffic controller left his home in southwest Scotland at 5am on Tuesday, 27 February, and drove to Glasgow Airport. From there he flew to Belfast before connecting with a flight to Birmingham. Once at Birmingham International, he caught a train to New Street, then made the short walk to Snow Hill and boarded a train to Stourbridge Junction. The 0.8 mile journey between Stourbridge Junction and Stourbridge Town, takes just eight minutes. The round trip took him 18 hours.

Neil said his interest in the line was sparked by YouTuber Geoff Marshall, who visited al 2,563 UK railway stations with partner Vicki Pipe in 2017.
